Information on spam, fraud and unwelcome calls

How Telstra Scam Protect helps you identify and avoid scam calls — and where to go for help.

If you have an unwelcome call threatening life or property, contact the police immediately on 000.

In December 2024 Telstra rolled out Scam Protect across their mobile and landline services network to all customers (Retail, Multiband and Wholesale across all segments). It’s completely free and will automatically activate on compatible devices.

While it can’t prevent every single scam call that comes along, the new Scam Protect feature will help customers identify and avoid scams on their Telstra mobile and landline service by giving more information about the calls.

Call indicators to watch for

  • Warning — Potential Fraud: the call may be fraudulent. This message is applied to calls with spoofed numbers or suspicious calling patterns.
  • Warning — Suspicious Calling Pattern: indicates a high volume of incoming traffic from a single number. This is associated with potential spam and means you should be cautious.
  • Unverified — Overseas Call: the call appears to be from a local mobile number, but it’s been detected coming from overseas and may be suspicious. This message only appears for suspicious calls.
